    What do we do?

The Production Engineering Association is the upstream oil and gas Association dedicated to the advancement of hydrocarbons production engineering technology. The Association is open to all oil company operators and currently comprises of eighteen leading organisations. The focus for the Association is upstream oil and gas technology.

The PEA operates with a series of focused workshops based on technology themes important to its members. The PEA members meet regularly at these workshops to share their experiences, envision the future of the industry and discuss ways to focus and encourage the research and development work of the technology supply community.

These themes are grouped into technology forums :

    • Water and Gas Shut Off and Chemical EOR
    • Sand Management
    • Intelligent Well Completions
    • Unconventional Gas / Tight Gas

In addition to the technology forums, a separate theme is R&D associated with production technology. This operates with forum workshops – three times per year - most often linked to one of the technical forum workshops.

At each PEA workshop, communications and exchanges take place between the operator members, along with opportunity for the research community – R&D providers – to engage with the PEA members through technology transfer and the presentation of new R&D ideas. Therefore, although membership of the PEA is only open to operators, R&D providers play an essential part in the success of the Association.

The Association was founded in 1989 and has continued to be strongly supported by the industry. The PEA was begun as a European Association and still has a strong European focus, with many of the problems discussed being particular to the North Sea environment for instance. However, the outlook has become more global in recent years and R&D proposals are regularly heard from USA-based suppliers.

Strong links are maintained with the other related networks, the FEA (Facilities Engineering Association) and the DEA (Drilling Engineering Association) and there is common sharing of research proposals and project ideas wherever appropriate.

The objective of the Association is to improve access to and use of production technology on a worldwide basis, through knowledge sharing and supply chain simulation.
