Objectives and benefits
The Association exists to promote continual industry improvements in responsible hydrocarbon production technology. Its objectives are to:
- Catalyse industry collaboration on production technology
- Provide an authoritative and coherent voice on the industry's production technology needs
- Influence research strategy
- Focus external and industry funding and encourage technology transfer
- Stimulate the development of production technology systems to meet member needs
- Facilitate technology sharing between members
- Provide an environment to stimulate radical technology improvements
The PEA's objectives are pursued through the following means:
- Identification of members' common, prioritised technology needs, agreeing where possible on equipment and system functionality and reliability, in order to provide good information to the supply sector to help focus industry research and development activities
- Provision of forums in which suppliers, research institutes, universities and others, can present development proposals and ask for funding, to an audience of senior production engineers from all target oil and gas companies
- Developing and visualising a common view of how technology needs could ideally evolve in future years, identifying the stages, which must be achieved on the way
- Sharing data and field experiences between operators, including successes and mistakes, largely via dedicated technology forums
- Liaising with related associations and organisations in order to coordinate events and avoid duplication of effort within the industry
- Publicising the activities of the PEA in order to reach into all member organisations and highlight the production optimisation benefits of multi-disciplinary working (between reservoir engineers, drilling engineers, well and production engineers and chemists for instance)
Member companies benefit from joining the PEA by:
- Sharing case history information and learning from other companies' experience and mistakes in the technology forums
- The opportunity to hear a range of screened and innovative project proposals and technology presentations at the main R&D PEA meetings
- Understanding other members' production engineering R&D needs and strategies
- Having a forum in which to present their own R&D priorities and seek collaborative research partners
- Hearing state of the art technology presentations from R&D suppliers and operators
- Networking at a range of workshops and social occasions (most meetings are preceded by a dinner organised by the hosting member)
- Access to all the archive material in the Members' only area of this website (projects / document library and contacts directory)
